This test identifies gene mutations that infer resistance to anti-EGFR therapy for treatment of metastatic colon cancer.  At least 30% of patients with metastatic CRC will have a KRAS mutation. Patients with a KRAS mutation respond poorly to anti-EGFR chemotherapies therefore, knowledge of their mutation status will aid in developing an effective course of treatment.

The KRAS test looks for 7 point mutations, 6 in codon 12, and 1 in codon 13.  DNA is extracted from paraffin embedded tissue and mutation analysis is performed.
